Bulk purchasing changes the bushing problem from “find one replacement” to “maintain a controlled assortment.” A distributor can easily carry many shaft bores across several families, and a warehouse error between EP-2012 and EP-2017 or between Taper Lock and QD can create the same downtime as a manufacturing defect.
The best wholesale program is built around stable item identity, technical data and replenishment logic. Order volume matters commercially, but the first task is to decide which families and bore/keyway combinations belong in stock.
Who buys taper bushings in bulk
Industrial power-transmission distributors, MRO suppliers and OEM manufacturers typically have different assortment needs. A distributor may need mixed models and bores; an OEM may repeatedly consume one or two specified configurations; an MRO contractor may value labelled spares for a set of critical plant assets. Structure the RFQ around that use case.
Build the assortment from demand data

Mixed-series orders need line-level control
Do not send a single “500 taper bushings” quantity. List each EP model, bore, keyway and quantity separately. For QD or XT products, keep the family letter or XTB code visible in the warehouse description. If packaging or private labelling is required, ask the supplier to confirm available options rather than assuming they are standard.
Quality checks for wholesale receipts
A distributor does not need to measure every dimension on every piece, but it should have a receiving plan. Check model marking, packaging identity, obvious damage, bore/keyway on a sampling basis and any agreed inspection documents. For new configurations, keep a retained sample or drawing linked to the item master.
Make repeat orders easier than the first order
Store the approved drawing or product reference, supplier item code, EP model, bore, keyway, material and packaging description in the ERP. Reordering from a short nickname such as “2517 bush” invites ambiguity. The value of a wholesale relationship is repeatable configuration, not simply a large one-time quantity.
