Buying taper bushings internationally is less risky when the purchase is treated as an engineering specification rather than a generic hardware order. The supplier country does not tell you whether the bore, taper, keyway or material will match your machine. A good RFQ and an inspection plan do.
The most efficient buyers separate three questions: can the supplier make the required interface, can it show repeatable dimensional control, and can the commercial terms support the order. Product drawings and sample inspection should come before large-volume assumptions.
How to evaluate a manufacturer or supplier

Requesting and evaluating samples
Use a sample to confirm the interface, not only surface appearance. Measure bore, keyway, key dimensions, A/B/D or family-specific geometry, fastener threads and the fit with a known-good mating hub. If the part will be used at high speed or in a critical drive, add the machine-specific checks required by your engineering procedure.
Write the RFQ so suppliers quote the same part
State the EP or existing model, shaft bore, keyway standard, material, quantity, mating hub or pulley and required documents. For a custom or old part, attach a drawing. A vague request such as “2517 bushing, best price” invites different assumptions about bore, keyway, fasteners and packaging.
Commercial terms and logistics
Compare quotations on the same Incoterm and destination. FOB, CIF and DDP allocate freight, insurance, import handling and taxes differently, so a lower unit price does not necessarily mean a lower landed cost. Ask for package dimensions and gross weight when freight will be arranged separately.
Start with a controlled order
For a new supplier, move from drawing review to sample or limited production, then inspect the delivered parts against the agreed specification. Build a receiving checklist for model marking, quantity, bore/keyway, visible damage and documentation. The goal is repeatability, not a one-time good sample.
